A construction engineer is responsible for the entire construction project i.e. planning, directing, handling the design and being present during the time of construction. It is his responsibility to ensure that the project is implemented effectively. A construction engineer may design the plans for roads, bridges, pipelines, buildings, sewage system and more. The functions of a construction engineer include performing surveys and tests of the ground and water level of the project, preparing and implementing project safety plan as well as preparing diagrams and charts in a visually pleasing manner. This position requires coordinating with contractors, supervisory personnel and design professionals to avoid and resolve problems related to construction. He has to analyze engineering design methods viz. Structural, Steel, Timber, Aluminum or Concrete materials by using Limit States and Allowable Stress methods.
A bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is required for this position with knowledge of computers and proficiency in CAD as well as good analytical, communicational and planning skills.
